New Tiger Shark album out now: "Singles Ready to Mingle: The First Quarter Century"
My first album release, “Singles Ready to Mingle: The First Quarter Century”, is out now on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and all other major streaming services
The 24 tracks are a compilation of Tiger Shark songs from 1996-2021. Lotsa hard shit, funky shit, random shit. Please enjoy. And play it loud with the bass up.
Listen now and read about the tracks below:
Highlights:
“THUGS”, a bass-heavy thumper produced in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown, at the height of Black Lives Matter protests across the country, and during the depths of the Trump 2020 reelection campaign
“Only (Tiger Shark’s Null Mix)”, a drum ‘n’ bass take on the Nine Inch Nails track
“She’s Lost Control”, a cover of the Joy Division song, and the first track I ever used my own vocals on without using a vocoder
Major props to Public Enemy / The Bomb Squad, Kevin Martin / The Bug, Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails, Meat Beat Manifesto / Jack Dangers, Delta 9, Lords of Acid, Alec Empire / Atari Teenage Riot / Digital Hardcore Recordings, and Rick Rubin for inspiring me to create these songs.
Track listing and info:
THUGS (2020): Produced during the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020, with a title courtesy of the United States' Dear Leader during that time period.
I was listening to a lot of The Bug that summer. Follow him on social—he’s a rad, down to earth dude who produces some of the most ominous, subwoofer destroying music I’ve ever heard.
Treason & Coconuts (2021): Based on a line from "The Handmaid's Tale" and produced during The Orange One's clusterfuck of a run up to the 2020 election.
She’s Lost Control (2020): My first cover, and the first song I’ve sung on without vocoder, so you can actually hear my voice. Take that for what it’s worth.
Virunga (2016): Based on the documentary about gorillas and people in conflict in the Congo.
I produced this in part to promote Project XTNCT, a clothing company through which I sold designs featuring endangered animals that were limited to the number of those animals left on the planet.
Pride (2016): With a tweaked-out Lion King sample, this is based on how humans are slaughtering lions and pushing them to the bring of extinction.
Also a Project XTNCT promotional track.
My Pit Bull (2012): Pit Bulls are awesome. So is Public Enemy—The Bomb Squad is my biggest musical influence.
Cougar Hunt (2012): Not about looking for older single ladies.
Sledgehammer (2006): Produced this in 5.1 surround sound, with accompanying 3D headphone video, as part of my capstone project for grad school.
Only (Tiger Shark's Null Mix) (2006): Trent Reznor encouraged people to remix this amazing NIN track by making the stems publicly available, and I got to do this drum ‘n’ bass banger as a class project.
I based it on my d’n’b heroes of the late ‘90’s and early aughts: Ed Rush and Optical, Andy C, Ram Trilogy, Dieselboy, Dillinja and Lemon D.One Voice (2006)
Whirlwind (2006): I tried to make a pop song, heavily influenced by The Neptunes and Kelis. Featuring vocalist Annie Steele.
The Ignorants (2006): Produced in 5.1 surround sound as a project for grad school. I was (and still am) heavily influenced by Adbusters Magazine, and I used some of their videos (including one with a super fat pig bursting forth from a map of the U.S.) as the visuals for this song, with plenty of military jets dropping bombs.
Higher Education (2006): Produced alongside an animated video featuring hundreds of doodles from my college notebooks.
The Seven Deadly Synths (2006): Produced for a music theory class in college. I was psyched that all of their MIDI equipment synced properly because I always had a hell of a time with that shit back in the day.
The Sunburn (2005): I got horribly sun burnt as a dumb young kid so decided to make a song and video about the experience as a dumb older kid.
Ducks (2005)
Trio (2005)
Street Racing (2005): Produced with a video game like Gran Turismo or Grand Theft Auto in mind.
Haunted Cave (2005): I’d love to produce a soundtrack for a horror movie one day.
Hash (2003)
Documentary (2005)
Bombast* (1997): One of the first tracks I ever produced. I was basically trying to be Delta 9, a hardcore techno / gabber producer from Chicago whom I idolized.
Shot to the Head* (1999): Trying to do my best Alec Empire / Digital Hardcore Recordings-style production in the late '90's.
Kuffed* (1996): My first track, from back in '96. I think I made it on the old Acid software. Trying to do some Lords of Acid / Praga Khan / Alec Empire / Atari Teenage Riot / Digital Hardcore Recordings / Delta 9 / gabber / hardcore techno shit.
*Pardon the explicit lyrics: These songs came from the mind of a typical American teenage boy.
